All County Award Dinner

This Cross Country Season was all about the team. For the first time in a long time the Cross Country team had a solid group of top runners. At the top of the pack was Sophomore Cullin Burdett. Cullin was selected as an All-County runner for his wide range of accomplishments throughout the season. Congratulations Cullin! With a strong team behind him there is no limit to what this team can achieve next season!

The End...is the Beginning!!!

The end of this great season is the beginning of a promising future for the North Salem Cross Country team. On August 3rd we started the season with 45 individuals. As the season progressed each and every individual continued to improve and amongst the individual accomplishments a team started to develop. The top 7 achieved their team goal at the last meet of the season. With all but one of the top 7 returning next season the North Salem Cross Country team will be a force to be reckoned with next season.

Freshman Shine...Seniors go out with a bang!!!


On a cold Saturday on the eve of Halloween the North Salem Cross Country team finished off it's regular season with an excellent effort. Voluntary workouts started on August 3rd...3 months later many of the athletes have improved their times while gaining self confidence . The purpose of every season is to improve; Almost all members of the team improved in multiple forms. Congratulations to all of the athletes who competed throughout the season. Coach Gilchrist and Coach Holst are extremely proud of each and every one of you. XC is one of the most physically and mentally demanding sports known to man. All of you have made it through to the end. That is an accomplishment in and of itself.

Section 1 Coaches Invitational



The goal of any runner is to continually improve upon his or her personal performance. The majority of the runners did that on Saturday at the Section 1 Coaches Invitational. As the season nears it's close the athletes are continuing to get better with each practice session. Many of the times run on Saturday were improved from the last meet run at Pawling. The team is looking forward to the Somers meet this coming Saturday.

Individual Breakthroughs = Team Success at Bobcat Run



The North Salem Cross Country team had an excellent meet on Saturday at the Bobcat Invitational. The team was able to achieve success on every level (Varsity, JV and Freshman). Meet Highlights are listed below:

Cullin Burdett - 7th out of 127 (Best finish of the season)
Andrew Mackenzie - 26th out of 127 (First Medal of the season)
Emma Ribaudo - 10th out of 47 (First Medal of the season)

Fast Times at Brewster Increase Team Confidence!!!

The Brewster Bear Invitational proved to be an extremely successful meet for the North Salem Cross Country team. The team as a whole ran excellent times on the 3.1 and 1.5 mile courses. Although this past week of practice was a tough one due to weather, the sun and the team both shined on Saturday. Meet highlights are listed below...

Starting tomorrow...Practice on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the remainder of the season will start at 3:30 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. The Season schedule has been adjusted accordingly.

NSXC claim 14 Medals at Green Mountain Invitational!!!

The North Salem XC team woke up early on Saturday morning to attend the Green Mountain Invitational. The loss of sleep was a small price to pay for what the team would gain. The team took home an unprecedented total of 14 medals. The Medal Winners are picture below...

The Team Shines at HOME!!!

The North Salem Cross Country team opened up the dual meet season with a win over JFK. The entire team ran the tough 5k trail and ran it well. The first meet of the season at home is always a special meet. It gives the athletes a chance to run in front of their families and friends. It gave North Salem the opportunity to defend their home course. Every member of the team had a great race and the top 7 are truly starting to develop into a team. Pack Running Emerges at Red Raider Run...

In Cross Country the key to success is pack running. The North Salem Cross Country team started to put this idea into action on Friday at the Red Raider Run. For years the team has had a couple of top runners, but for the first time in a long time the team has the potential to develop a top 7 group with unlimited potential. Pictured below is our group of top 7 runners who attended the meet.

Top Finishers and Race Highlights include:




1. Cullin Burdett - 15th out of 73 (medal winner pictured above)

2. Micky Jacobsen - Finished as our number 2 runner with time of 19'22(personal best)

3. Luke Raskopf - 19'55 (personal best)

4. Ryan Hendrie - 20'11 - ran a great race and finished strong

5. Sean Devey - 20'15 - one of the two dynamic freshman in his Varsity debut ran a great race

6. Tomasz Stefankowski - 20'20 - the second of the two dynamic freshman in his Varsity debut ran well.

7. Andrew Mackenzie (injured) - Captain who showed great support and leadership by attending on Friday.

***Position 3 - 6 all finished within 25 seconds of each other - that is the epitome of pack running!!!

Somers Big Red helps NSXC build confidence...

The 2010 Cross Country Season is underway. The team started the season with a strong showing at the Somers Big Red Invitational this past weekend. The runners have been working hard all summer and it showed on Saturday. Almost every athlete that ran finished with a better time than they ran the previous year. Although we only had two girls competing, they ran hard and pushed through some adversity. The freshman and Varsity boy’s teams ran well. Coach Gilchrist and Coach Holst are extremely proud of the athletes who competed on Saturday.

Freshman Team finished 2nd in Class C

Varsity Team finished 4th in Class C

Running Form...

Coach Davis and I went to see the Diamond League this summer while it was in NYC (Ichan Stadium). We got the chance to watch some of the best distance runners in the world. Watch their form. Its all about running efficiently...

Bernard Lagat was the world champion at 3,000 meters this past winter.

Pay attention to the voice at 13 seconds....

Summer Group Workouts!

Coach Gilchrist and I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer and also looking forward to the upcoming Cross Country Season. The following are the dates that we will meet as a Group for voluntary workouts. The group will meet every Tuesday and Thursday prior to the start of the season to put in some base miles. As you all know success in Cross Country is largely determined by the work you complete before and early on during the season. If you have not been running you need to start building up your BASE MILES today! If there are any questions please email Coach Gilchrist or Coach Holst.
